Michael Shapiro (Madison, Wisconsin, 1957) llevó su aprecio por los viejos autos estadounidenses, una caja de herramientas y un Ford Falcon color beige año 1962 por la carretera Panamericana desde San Francisco a Managua, Nicaragua, a mediados de la década de 1980; y siguió luego de fundar Libros Sin Fronteras, una distribuidora de libros y música en español con sede en EE. UU. Viajó a menudo a Cuba entre 1998 y 2002 para seleccionar libros y música cubana para las bibliotecas públicas y universitarias de los Estados Unidos.
Michael obtuvo su licenciatura de la Universidad de California, Berkeley y maestrías en Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Nuevo México, y Biblioteconomía e Informática de la Universidad de Wisconsin-Madison. Es miembro de por vida de REFORMA, la Asociación Nacional para Promover los Servicios de Bibliotecas e Información para Latinos y Hispanohablantes. Su amor por el idioma castellano y sus publicaciones le ha permitido trabajar con la cooperativa de bibliotecas OCLC-WebJunction; e IEEE, la organización profesional técnica más grande del mundo para el avance de la tecnología. Es autor de artículos y ensayos relacionados con la educación bilingüe y la distribución de información impreso y digital. Michael, su esposa Tanya y sus hijas Isabel y Maya residen en Traslasierra, Córdoba, Argentina y Seattle, Washington. Este es su primer libro.
Michael Shapiro (Madison, Wisconsin 1957) brought his appreciation for old American cars, a box of tools and a beige 1962 Ford Falcon down the Panamericana Highway from San Francisco to Managua, Nicaragua in the mid-1980s; then continued after founding Libros Sin Fronteras, a US-based, Spanish language book and music distributorship. He travelled regularly to Cuba between 1998 and 2002 to select Cuban books and music for US public and university libraries.
Michael gained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and master’s degrees in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, and Library and Information Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a lifetime member of REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking. His penchant for the Spanish language and publishing has allowed him to work with the library cooperative OCLC-WebJunction; and IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology. He has authored articles and essays relating to bilingual education and print and digital content distribution. Michael, his wife Tanya and daughters Isabel and Maya make their homes in Traslasierra, Cordoba, Argentina and Seattle, Washington. This is his first book.
